How do you find peace of mind?

So, I usually try to steer clear of having religious conversations out of the blue.  If someone else happens to bring it up, I'm willing to give my two cents usually.  Today I'm going to kind of try to steer clear and keep the topic more general because there is something to be said for taking a moment for yourself and just sitting in silence and reflecting, or thinking, or trying to clear your mind.  There's something healing about it.  I think it's done in many different ways by many different people. Some people call it prayer, some meditation, some might even call it brain storming (even though the stormy part, I think, would need to be toned down to a gentle breeze - "brain gentle breezing" - I like that).  I've read several articles in the past about healing nature of meditation and a quick search right now brought up one study done that showed that a combination of self-hypnosis and meditation helped postmenopausal women with osteoporosis ( a med...

"Is there rice in this soup?"

We were heating up leftovers from the weekend.  Some had minestrone, some had tamale soup, some had turkey tacos, biscuits, and whatever else we could muster up.  In a moment of silence my youngest son pipes up and asks "is there rice in this soup?" I don't know exactly what it was but something in his intonation made it sound like the title of a book like "if you give a mouse a cookie" or something of that nature.  I said that it sounds like a book by Artour and he liked that and played off of it saying yes the title is "Is there rice in this soup? And the first page is blank the second page blank another blank page and another blank page" and in the meantime my older son was coming up with his own version where Artour is actually allergic to rice at which point Artour actually says "I'm not allergic to rice!"  It got a bit loud in the kitchen but it was a fun little moment over food and it did sound a bit like a children's book.  H...

Can I Convert? #2

Today I took of the seatpost and the saddle and figured I'd put them up for sale on ebay since they are in great shape and are probably the best thing off of the bike.  So I'm in our bedroom and my wife says, "what are you doing? Maybe I should try that seat."  The seat and post are crazy heavy and it wouldn't make climbing easier on anyone, but it was enough for me to hold off on posting it for sale.  The other thing about this seatpost is that it's a 26.2mm diameter which isn't used much anymore so a couple of the options that I had wanted have gone out the door and I have to find something else.  I was hoping for something a bit aero and colorful but yeah 26.2 has created more digging for me to do. I also started taking apart the stem/headset/handlebar contraption of the bike because I'm interested in the dimensions that I will find there as well.  I didn't spend much time on it this morning and I imagine it will be a lengthy process.  I'...

Can I Convert It? Specialized Crossroads

Greetings! Ever since our abode and community went up in flames about a year ago I've been dreaming about bikes.  Most cyclist may be aware of the n+1 equation of how many bikes one person should own.  Well I went from having a mountain bike, road bike, cyclocross/commuter bike, and access to my brothers TT bike whenever I liked to having 0 two wheeled fun machines.  After moving in with my parents and really feeling the need to get out and burn off some stress, I was quick to look for something to get me spinning.  One of my Mom's friends stepped up and offered me her husband's old bike and who am I to turn down something to use?  I used it awhile until I found a great deal on a very nice mountain bike that I use everyday now.  BUT, I still have a desire to get back to having multiply bikes for multiple disciplines and because I have the Ol' Crossroads (as the guys at the local bike shop called it), I would like to turn it into something that I might use ...

Tidbit about Tidbit - What does it mean and where does it come from? Oh yes, etymology of tidbit!

Hello. If you are reading this blog for the first time, then I welcome you. If it is not your first time, then I pull you in for a hearty hug because I'm glad that you are here again. If you did not know, my name is not LeslyAnne. So in the first post I wrote the word tidbit, and it made me wonder if I was spelling it correctly and where in the world it came from (hence today's post). I take my information from the Optimal Elephant Database or what is more commonly known as the almighty OED (Oxford English Dictionary - which I really don't know what you have to do to use it if you're not subscribed through academia. Probably just have to pay money, but who cares for doing that.). On with the show. Pictures are nice - usually. (this one seems to be taken from JooJoo: an art blog ) Tidbit means "a small piece of tasty food; a delicacy, a morsel." It can also be used figuratively or not really referring to food but likening something unto a tasty...

5 of the best reasons why....

Hello, My name is not LeslyAnne.  This is however my list "5 of the best reasons why" I'm starting yet another blog.  First and foremost, this one is an experiment to see what happens if someone consistently writes and publishes blog posts.   Secondly, I like to write and this will hopefully be a place to put some things down in writing for myself to remember and hopefully for others to enjoy.  The third reason has to be because I like to learn and I've realized that I look up a lot of little tidbits of information throughout the day and then they are gone.  I'd like to share those.  Yes, others could go and do the same thing that I do and look something up when the question arises from their own child, which is usually the situation here in our home, but why not write it down and share with anyone who might be interested in learning something new? Yes, why not? Can a question be a reason? Sure, why not?   4 - I just finished a Maste...
